My Craziest Design Ideas..
Turned into Something Beautiful!

It’s music to my ears when a design client has said, ” Wow, I would never have thought of doing that!” or “That is a crazy good idea!”

But that’s exactly what interior designers do, we see possibilities of what your space holds. We visualize the end result before the project even begins. Collectively we are always sharing ideas and designs with one another, basically we come up with the craziest ideas and bring them into reality.

Crazy Good Focal Wall

Would you have guessed this photo is of a recently remodeled funeral home?

It started out as a family restaurant that was converted to Anderson-Tebeest Funeral Home in Granite Falls. When I first saw the space it was completely gutted and down to the framing. The owners brought me in to make the space feel welcoming and comforting. Within just a few weeks I had the plans laid out and the design approved.

This focal wall is the first thing you see when entering the funeral home so it needed something crazy good to greet the families and friends who would be gathering there. I knew that a stone fireplace was a given for creating the warmth they wanted, but the long wall needed something eye-catching and special to flank the stone.

I found the white panels with the leaf design from a company in Portugal. They fit perfect with my desire to create a focal wall that is something unique and different. They are actually 2 foot plastic panels that we glued onto a huge piece of plexi-glass and then custom cut the curves. To hang them I wanted a 3-D look so I used something called stand-offs (the little silver holders) to bring them away from the wall.

Another focal wall is in the front of their main gathering room. I carried over stone that we used in the fireplace and the same white leaf panels to blend the two room together. What could just been a plain painted wall is made crazy good with a little creative design.

Crazy Photo Display Ideas

The memory wall was another quite an ‘out-of the-box’ crazy idea for the funeral home in that it allows the family to share their loved ones photos in beautiful and different way. These plastic pamphlet holders are suspended wire cables that add tons of interest to this long wall. The families can simply slip their favorite photos in the display without taping or pinning them to a tag board. They can also easily exchange out their loved ones framed photo for the ones on the shelves…super simple.
