It’s fall and that means it’s time to gather your friends together and head for all those fun fall arts and crafts shows. Girls day out! Woo hoo!
But how may times have you walked past a booth with super cute stuff and say,”That doesn’t look that hard to make, I could do that myself.”? And you pass it by, confident you’re going to make one for yourself. Sure you have good intentions but how many times do you actually follow through with creating the item you loved? Probably not too many. In fact if you’re like me you likely forget the details of the project by the time you hit the car and even though you drive directly to the craft and hobby store, you can never find just the right things to put it together properly.
I call this the “I can do it myself” syndrome. Our ‘Pintrest’ culture makes you believe you should be able to do all your designing and decorating yourselves and that it should just come natural to you. But when you can’t complete a simple project you feel like you somehow let yourself down.
The fact is that creating and designing home crafts and decor’ is time consuming and takes some skills to do it right and it doesn’t always come natural. As a life coach I often talked about embracing your gifts and sometimes that means you have gifts that are not related to decorating. And even if you have the skills, you may simply not have the time to do it.
Timing is everything..
I find this true with interior design of your home as well. You have good intentions of refreshing your kitchen or redecorating your living room but can never find the time to do it. You know you need to do something but can’t find the time to pull it together. Too many things are vying for your precious time and energy. Then days and months, even years pass while you plan to ‘do it yourself’ and you grow weary because your outdated space it draining your energy.
You have permission to let go..
So today I giving you permission to let go of the perception that you have to do it yourself. Instead, reach out to a designer in your area and hire them to help you. As an interior designer, it’s my job to take the time needed to redo your kitchen in the latest colors or to help you finally arrange your living room into a space that functions so much better. You might be surprised just how affordable local designers really are.
And guess what happens when you hire a professional to help you? You finally get the space that gives you energy instead of draining it; you get to come home to a space that renews you and refreshes your spirit.
Alright… who’s ready to go crafting?
