BRING INSPIRATION AND MEANING TO YOUR HOME
As a designer and decorator, I love adding in pieces to your home that inspire you and make your space more meaningful and not just functional and pretty. Those are important too, but adding in just a few key personal pieces will help you fall in love with the room every time you walk in it. Your home should reflect something special about you and your family and here’s my favorite way to do it.
First Step: Find Your Inspiration
It’s January so everyone is making resolutions that will improve their life and well-being in the next year. First thing you should know about me…I don’t do New Years Resolutions.
But I do embrace one guiding scripture or phrase that I can go to all year long, one that keeps my head and heart in the right place. I take special time over the holidays listening and thinking about what my guiding words will be.
Once I have my inspiration I find ways to incorporate it into my decor and design of my home and work. Adding these inspirational pieces brings meaning and significance into my home design all year long. They keep my guiding principle front and center every day.
This year I have chosen the phrase, “I’ll sing you a love song.” It’s from a beautiful song sung by Point of Grace called You Are Good. (full lyrics below)
It’s a love song to God, recognizing Him for all the good He bring me everyday. It asks what can I give him in return for all his good that he gives me, and answers, “Ill sing you a love song.” Those words inspire me to have a song in my heart every day and to be giving thanks for all that is good in my life. And the best part is that whether I am trying to lose weight or build my design business, it’s always there to guide me then too.
What is your inspiration this year? What words do you want to guide you?
Do you need strength or patience? Maybe you want to embrace change and make a greater impact with your life. I have had parents who want their children to feel valued and special too and will add inspiration for the whole family.
Think about how you want your heart to feel this year and find ONE phrase that fits your motivation for the next year.
Step Two: Put it in Place
Once I knew the theme for my new year I started finding ways to put it in small ways throughout my home. I had a book titled, “Then Sings My SouI” and so I propped it in a metal tray and hung it in kitchen where I see it every time I go into the room. For anyone walking by they’d think it was just a pretty book but for me, it’s a reminder that I’m singing a love song to God everyday. Plus I get the song stuck in my head all day which is great! (Lyrics from How Great Thou Art)
Make your home inspirational with a guiding phrase that is meaningful to you.
This pillow display the words of the love song my dad used to sing to my mom.
There are lots of ways to bring meaning to your decor this year once you know what you want your main idea to be.
Have fun discovering your inspiration for the year and if you need help connecting your phrase to your space, I’d love to help!
Thanks for coming,
Betsy
